Have you heard that The City of Hamilton has launched a new community funding program, the Placemaking Grant Pilot Program?

This funding initiative is very much in alignment with Hamilton's Art in Public Places Policy priorities, including empowering artists, arts organizations and community groups to take greater ownership of the public realm.

Made possible because of a $100,000 donation from the Patrick J. McNally Charitable Foundation, the Placemaking Grant Pilot Program will fund community-led placemaking projects that temporarily animate public spaces.

Placemaking is a hands-on approach for making a meaningful change or impact in a neighborhood, city or region. Placemaking interacts with the unique geography, culture, and heritage of a space and is a way for residents to feel ownership of public space and use it in a way that is specific to community need.

Applications for the Placemaking Grant Pilot Program will be accepted from groups of residents and non-profit organizations.

Applications for funding are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021.

For more information visit Hamilton.ca/PlacemakingGrant

State of the Arts is our ongoing look at the municipal arts funding landscape in Hamilton, it's opportunities and impact on the local arts ecology.

Part Three of the Series, "Are Actions Speaking Louder Than Words?" looks at the 2015 increase to arts funding and how that translates into the funding organizations receive today, as well as its relationship to the City's Strategic Plan to 2025, which lists arts and culture as a priority.

"@claudspadafora's conviction in the idea of a space-travelling bathtub is so strong and passionate that you start to believe it, too. While this premise in itself is absurd, and the show could quickly travel into mediocrity as a result, the clever writing, anticipation of audience reaction and prompts save the show and instead, make it a must-have experience."
