Experience an explosive fusion of dance, featuring internationally-celebrated, award-winning dance artists! Dance a Mile in My Shoes/Bells explores the exciting interaction and connections between Flamenco and traditional Indian Kathak dance on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 2 PM. Part of the 2023 Spring Performing Arts Sunday Series (PASS), this is sure to be a memorable event.
Internationally-celebrated dance artists Carmen Romero and Bageshree Vaze explore the investigation of rhythmic language that exists in both styles: while Flamenco depicts rhythmic command through shoes, Kathak does so through the ghungroos (bells). Displaying the unique migratory experience of these dance languages, the show features an ensemble of stellar musicians including Dora Mavor Moore Award-winning artists Vineet Vyas (tabla drums) and Nicolas Hernandes (guitar). After a successful run at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto in 2019, this piece is set to wow audiences in Hamilton.
Carmen Romero returns to PASS after an electric performance of Flamencura last season. Romero is an established dance artist, always striving to push the boundaries of her craft. Known for her story-forward choreographic style, her pieces are designed to invite the audience into a visceral experience. Her numerous productions have garnered her multiple awards and nominations, including a Dora Award, the Chalmers Award, and the Muriel Sherrin Award for International Achievement in Dance.
Bageshree Vaze is an Indo-Canadian dance artist and musician, having studied internationally with renowned teachers in vocal music, Bharatha Natyam, and Kathak dance. A three-time Dora Award nominee, she is the 2022 Inaugural Dance Collection Danse Artist Researcher-in-Residence, and in May 2022 she choreographed the work ‘Anthem’ for the School of Toronto Dance Theatre.

Dance a Mile in My Shoes/Bells is part of the HCA Dance + Theatre’s Performing Arts Sunday Series, which showcases some of Canada’s finest dance, music, and theatre in the intimate and unique HCA Black Box Theatre.
