Release: Supercrawl Announces 2022 Music Lineup

Following two years of modified events, Supercrawl will return to its James North home for its 2022 Festival.

According to a press release, the music lineup was revealed yesterday at the Bridgeworks; a music hub that has been run by Supercrawl affiliate Sonic Unyon since its opening in 2020.

“We’re thrilled and energized to be returning to James North,” said Festival Director Tim Potocic. “Supercrawl’s core commitment is to artists and makers, and we’ve always been strongly anchored in Hamilton’s downtown, so this is definitely a milestone moment.”

This year’s festival will feature over forty musical acts in the September 9 – 11 street festival, along with visual and performance artists, fashion and author components, food trucks and vendors.

Only the lineup for the Festival’s music component was announced yesterday following the screening of a launch video. A promise was made that the lineup for the Festival’s other elements will be forthcoming. Supercrawl also announced an interactive residency from international post-industrial art rock performance troupe Squonk, who will bring their production Hand to Hand to the festival on September 10 and 11.

The production will be a site to behold, although where exactly it will fit on James Street is unclear. Hand to Hand is propelled by 2 giant puppet hands, each the size of a house and rigged like a sailing ship. Throughout the show, the giant thumbs detach to become opposable and challenge each other with guitars. Audience members are able to participate in the rigging process and control the giant fingers.

Only the lineup for the Festival’s music component was announced yesterday. Headliners for the 2022 Festival include Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta!), who also headlined at the 2021 Festival at Bayfront Park; The Dirty Nil; Sarah Harmer; Lido Pimienta and Charlotte Day Wilson.

Other musical acts announced at yesterday’s event include:
