The Thought Residencies are back!
This season, hear four long-form conversations between artists about theatre, creation, and community. All hosted by b Current Artistic Director and FOLDA Co-Curator, Marcel Stewart. Tune in this November wherever you get your podcasts.
“In an era defined by rapid change and endless possibilities, we find ourselves at a unique crossroad as artists, a point where artistic expression meets technological evolution,” host Marcel Stewart writes. “With a myriad of think pieces, blog posts, and Twitter (I mean X) rants articulating the state of art and culture in the western world and ways we can improve it, I’m constantly being compelled to reflect on what matters now when it comes to art, creation, and innovation. This is where the 2023 Thought Residency cohort takes shape, platforming visionary artists from across Canada who will dissect, excavate, and discuss the interplay between storytelling and change.
As we journey through these conversations, the words of Nas resonate, urging us to ‘destroy & rebuild’ the boundaries that confine our creative endeavours.”
The 2023 cohort of Thought Residents includes Sébastien Heins (creator/performer of No Save Points); Shayna Jones (Black + Rural Project); Lisa Karen Cox (director and educator); Tianna Edwards (Keeping Up With Kingston); Dr. Pratim Sengupta (FOLDA 2023 Thinker-In-Residence); Owais Lightwala (Assistant Professor in the Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University, co-creator of Manifesto for Now); and Thought Residency founder Sarah Garton Stanley (VP of Programming at Arts Commons, co-creator of Manifesto for Now).
The Thought Residencies were founded in 2014 as short musings from innovative Canadian theatre and performance makers produced by Spiderwebshow Performance in partnership with b current.
Episodes begin to be released on November 14, 2023, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and on spiderwebshow.ca. For more information, go to spiderwebshow.ca/thought-residencies or visit them on Instagram or Facebook @folda.
