Hamilton Happenings
- The Hamilton Film Festival is looking for input into potential classes, courses or workshops the new Hamilton Film Festival’s School of Media Arts can offer. Feedback can be provided by completing the survey here.
- LIVELab at McMaster University presents a new docu-series, ‘The Art of Science’ beginning on March 2 at 7pm. The series takes viewers behind the scenes and into the minds of LIVELab researchers and scientists as they discuss the coordination of music and dance. The series is available for free on the LIVELab’s YouTube and Facebook channel.
Awards Season is Upon Us
- Congratulations to Stony Plain Records in Waterdown, who has several nominees in the The Blues Foundation’s 2022 music awards. Sue Foley’s album, Pinky’s Blues is nominated for Album of the Year and Traditional Blues Album; Sue Foley is also nominated for Traditional Blues Female Artist alongside Rory Block. Let’s Get Happy Together by Maria Muldaur with Tuba Skinny is nominated for Acoustic Blues Album.
Here & There
- Hamilton Artists Inc. will host their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, February 26 at 2pm. The AGM will take place online; RSVP required to attend.
- Earl’s Court Gallery is hosting a Meet the Artist event with Chelo Sebastian on February 26. The drop-in style event at the Ottawa Street North gallery will take place from 12-3pm.
- The Art Gallery of Hamilton hosts artwork from Hamilton secondary school art students in Metamorphosis; an online survey of artwork. The current edition is the fourth iteration of the project.
- Cultural Relations Platform is seeking forty professionals and entrepreneurs working in the cultural and creative sectors for their Global Cultural Relations Program, which will run May 10-13, 2022 in Istanbul. Applicants should be ages 25-39, with at least 3 years experience in international collaboration. The deadline to apply is March 1.
- The Dundas Valley School of Art is accepting original art submissions in all mediums between February 7 – March 10, 2022. Artwork will be auctioned off at the School’s annual fundraising event. Find out more here.
- The Hamilton Arts Awards is now accepting submissions for the 2022 Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Commission Prize. The prize provides a $2,000 commission to support the creation of a new work that speaks to Hamilton’s evolving identity, and will be presented at next year’s Arts Awards. Supported by the Hamilton Community Foundation, artists must be practicing professionally for less than five years to be eligible. Submission deadline is March 11, 2022.
- The Carnegie Gallery is accepting exhibition submissions in all media of fine art or craft for its 2023 programming year. Established and emerging artists are welcome to apply by May 31, 2022. Find out more here.
