This Week’s Highlights
- The Hamilton Community Foundation released its annual report for 2021-2022 this week. During the reporting period, 8% of the Foundation’s grants went to arts and culture, including grants to local arts organizations Sinfonia Ancaster, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Red Betty Theatre and more.
- Festival of Friends announces the death of Chuck Renaud, who served as President of the Festival for over 20 years, and helped shape the Festival into the event it is known as today.
- Congratulations to Olivia Brouwer, Cait Gautron, Taras Hemon, Clairandean Humphrey, K. MacNeil, Ignazio Colt Nicastro, Steven Schmid and Abigail Whitney. The artists were each awarded microgrants from Hamilton Artists Inc. and Factory Media Centre to support various creative projects.
- Congratulations to Waterdown’s Stony Plain Records on their recent win at the 29th Annual Living Blues Awards. Kenny Wayne, a keyboardist signed to the label, won in the category of Critic’s Poll- Most Outstanding Musician (Keyboard).
- Congratulations to the Arkells, who were awarded the 2022 Allan Slaight Music Impact Honour from Canada’s Walk of Fame in honour of their “positive impact on others and contributions to the community.” The band will officially receive the award at the next Walk of Fame gala, date TBC.
- The Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) is launching a new Green Award to recognize projects that have a sustainable impact and passion for the connection between the arts and environmental stewardship. Find out more here.

- The Westdale Theatre is hiring an Operations Manager. Applications are due August 2.
- The Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra is seeking a Music Director. Applications are due August 22.

- The 34th edition of Art in the Workplace opens at McMaster Innovation Park with a reception on Thursday, July 28 from 7-9pm. The exhibit features works by over 100 local artists.
- Hamilton Fringe Festival’s DISCOCAB is looking for any and all artist folks in the disability and mental health community to join their lineup on July 28 at 8pm and/or July 30 at 8pm on the Fringe outdoor stage. Message them on Instagram at @theadhdproject for details.
