In honour of their fifth anniversary, The Westdale is bringing old friends and new favourites to the restored venue.
The Valentine’s day gala will kick off with the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band before Suzie McNeil and Gary Beals take the stage. The two singers will perform classic love songs while sharing stories about how the tunes came to life, and their how their own experiences have impacted the crafting of love songs. Comedian Scott Faulconbridge will also perform. The venue will also host a live auction as part of the evening’s festivities.
“We want to showcase the best of what The Westdale offers to the community”, says Executive Director, Alysha Main.
Originally built as a cinema in 1935, the Westdale theatre underwent a massive restoration in 2019. The theatre is now a charitable organization that focuses on independent and repertory films while serving as a community hub.
This formula seems to have worked for the storied venue. While the organization declared a deficit of almost a hundred thousand dollars in their last fiscal year, overall, the theatre’s financial statements show a healthy accumulated surplus.
Guests to the one hundred-dollar per ticket event are invited to wear a hear accessory, piece of jewellery or heart clothing print.
